Título: Yrsa in Valencia and Hispania, escuela de español

Yrsa is a 23-year-old student, who studies Marketing in a University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She got the chance to do an internship at Hispania, escuela de español español, a Spanish language school in Valencia, Spain. Here you can read her story about how was her experience of learning Spanish and living in Valencia.

During the third year of my study I got the chance to do an internship in a foreign country. From the beginning, I knew that I wanted to do an internship in Spain and learn Spanish. But, the big question I was dealing with was; which city shall I choose? I knew the big cities Barcelona and Madrid, but what for example had Valencia to offer me? I did a lot of research and I was so surprised about the city of the Paella and oranges, Valencia.  It seems perfect for me! I live in Valencia for 3 months now and I really LOVE this city!

Valencia is the third biggest city of Spain and it is not a very touristy city but you can really experience the authentic Spain. Valencia has a lot of historical buildings, beautiful squares and parks. There are a lot of restaurants were you can taste the delicious paella that is from Valencia. I think it is so great to live in a city were the beach is only 10 minutes away with public transport from the city centre. You don’t have to be afraid that you are bored, because there is a lot to do here. In the weekends I like to go to the Mercado central (market) where I buy fresh food, go to a museum, walk in the old town and drink a cup of coffee at a terrace, go to the beach and meet some friends, have dinner and after that go to a bar or a club.

From the first day ofmy Internship in Hispania, escuela de español español I felt home at this school. I work here at the marketing department and I really like it. Beside my internship, I also learn Spanish. When I first came to Valencia, I couldn’t speak Spanish at all. The only words I knew where “Hola” and “Adios”, but I follow a Spanish course for two hours a day during 3 months at Hispania, I really improve my Spanish. Because I am a student and I am used to sit in a class, but this is really another type of education. At Hispania, escuela de español español, they teach at a really informal and enthusiastic way, so learning Spanish becomes a real experience. I think all the teachers at Hispania have a lot of experience in teaching and teaching is a real passion for them.

During my classes I have met so many nice people which I speak almost every day. After the classes I talk with my new friends, drink a cup of coffee with them at the roof terrace or meet them later that day to have dinner, play tennis or go out for example.

After living in Valencia for 3 months this place really feels like home, and I know for sure I’m really going to miss this place when I have to go back to the Netherlands. I think going to Valencia and work and learn Spanish at Hispania was one of the best decision in my life. I think living in another country for the duration of a half a year and learning another language like Spanish, is so good for your own education and of course, for your CV as well. But most of all, it is so much fun. I really hope that after my study, I can work for a company who does business in Spain.
