Ya está aquí el Billabong Mundaka Challenge

Noticias calentitas y muy agradables para el mundo del surf. Para muchos el evento de este año lo teníamos en duda tras la mala suerte en ediciones anteriores y con la idea de suspender del circuito el Billabong Mundaka del 2012. Pero ¡¡NNNOOOO!!, lo tenemos nuevamente. La cuenta atrás ha comenzado.

Seguro que muchos surfistas de la Comunitat Valenciana irán a presenciar este gran evento inagural del Billabong Mundaka Challenge que reúne a los mejores surfistas y locos de los tubos, tan buenos como los que salen en la gran izquierda de Mundaka del circuito. Otros años desde redes sociales y webs se han hecho grupos para subir y disfrutar juntos, como si de un partido fuese, pero sin duda esto es mucho mejor que ver un partido de fútbol, pero mil veces mejor sin duda.

El evento cuenta con un periodo de 2 meses, a la espera de reunir las mejores condiciones para realizar el evento con un mínimo de 2 a 3 metros de olas.

Comenzará el 15 de enero, qué día tan bonito, hasta el 30 de marzo de 2012. Desde entonces los organizadores estarán muy pendientes de los partes para elegir el mejor día de nortazo y en cuanto esté la máquina de olas lista, todo comenzará para disfrutar durante 4 días del mejor surf. También quien pueda escaquearse estos meses lo más seguro es que se pueda codear con los 18 pros invitados en el agua y alucinar con el nivel nacional-europeos (6) e internacional (6). Tendremos como invitado a Iñaki Urkidi, primer invitado local, tras ganar el Mundaka Surf Taldea, el segundo saldrá del Campeonato de Surf “on line” el 13 de enero. El ganador se llevará al bolsillo 15.000€, casi nada, ¿no?, por surfear ya ves eh…

En la Casa de la Cultura de Mundaka Juan Tribisarrospe de Mundaka, Craig Sage, acompañados por Sam Carrier, en representación de Billabong, y Guillermo Lecumberri como presidente del Club de Surf local, nos desvelaron algunas de las incógnitas del campeonato.

Ya con el semáforo “en verde”, las mangas serán de una hora de duración entre seis competidores cada una, sin límite de olas.

Se espera reunir a figuras de renombre como Bruce Irons, Luke Egan, Bobby Martínez, Shone Dorian y Rob Machado, entre otros. La representación vasca estará compuesta por Hodei Collado, Aritz Aranburu, Iker Fuentes, Eneko Acero y otros invitados, además del citado Iñaki Urkidi. La lista de pre-seleccionados incluye bastantes suplentes alternativos.

La inauguración del Billabong Mundaka desafío está en traer de vuelta el mejor tuberiders del mundo en Mundaka, una de las mejores olas del mundo. Un periodo de espera de tres meses a partir del 15 de enero 2012 se ha puesto en marcha para asegurar que el evento de un día marcará las condiciones perfectas y un tamaño de onda mínima de 6 a 8 pies. Un vídeo de lo que debería ser un día histórico de navegación estará disponible en www.themundakachallenge.com

El evento innovador aporta un bienvenido retorno de surf de clase mundial de regreso a la ciudad de Mundaka, un sitio que tiene un lugar especial en el folklore europeo del surf. Conocida como una de las olas más perfectas y pintorescas del mundo, la ciudad vasca acogió el Billabong Pro, una élite de la competencia profesional de surf durante una década hasta 2009.

“Billabong en colaboración con el Club de Surf de Mundaka quería desarrollar un evento que mostrara el verdadero potencial de lo que la ola de Mundaka tiene que ofrecer”, dijo el portador Sam, el Billabong Europa Gerente de Marketing para hombre. “La ciudad es un lugar mágico y la onda es una de las mejores izquierdas del mundo. Podemos esperar un día perfecto y mostrar al mundo algunas de las tuberides loco que Mundaka es famosa.”

En el único evento los invitados verán seis especialistas internacionales europeos y seis tuberiding competir con seis surfistas vascos, dos de los cuales serán elegidos por el Club de Surf de Mundaka. Un formato innovador entre los surfistas, que compiten en un principio una hora de duración, de seis hombres se calienta.

“Cuando se está parado en el cañón en Mundaka con vistas a las montañas es como si el tiempo se detuviese. Definitivamente tiene que ser uno de los mejores tubos del mundo”, dijo Occy.

Los clips de vídeo y lo más destacado del evento estará disponible en www.themundakachallenge.com . Galerías de fotos, últimas noticias, biografías completas, vídeos… también estarán disponibles en el sitio.

El desafío de Billabong Mundaka se llevará a cabo con el apoyo de Monster Energy, la ciudad y club de surf de Mundaka y la Federación Vasca de Surf (EHSF).
