La laguna de la Dehesa
Un lago de montaña en la sierra de Espadán, único en la Comunitat Valenciana.
Como ubicada en el cráter de un volcán, en lo alto de una colina envuelta de alcornoques, la laguna de la Dehesa es uno de los lugares de mayor valor ecológico y paisajístico de la sierra de Espadán.
Perteneciente al municipio de Soneja, la laguna y su entorno es un ecosistema formado una zona húmeda rodeada de un bosque mediterráneo puro. Alcornoques, encinas, lentiscos, arrayanes, palmitos, romerales, jaras y numerosas especies botánicas difíciles de encontrar, algunas incluso endémicas o en peligro de extinción como la Crassula Campestris o la Chaetonychia Cymosa, envuelven una laguna endorreica de aguas dulces procedentes de la lluvia y sin manantiales cercanos, fenómeno único en la Comunidad Valenciana por ubicarse precisamente, en una zona de montaña.
La formación de la laguna se debe a que está situada sobre areniscas triásicas muy compactadas sobre margas de arcillas, que hacen que el suelo se impermeabilice y permita la existencia de esta lámina de agua permanente. Esta lámina permite también la vida de plantas acuáticas y diversas especies de anfibios como el sapo común, el sapo partero o el sapo de espuelas, además de la rana común.
Las orillas están pobladas de juncos y eneas como paso intermedio al roquedo que protege el charco.
A tan sólo 440 m de altura, la laguna de la Dehesa en las estribaciones más orientales de Espadán, es como una isla de agua en un mar de bosques. Tiene apenas 700 Ha y fue declarada Microreserva de Flora en el año 2000. Dos años después el Consell le aumentó su protección con la figura de Paraje Natural Municipal.
Hay un pequeño recorrido que nos descubre las formaciones de rodeno, las vistas sobre el valle del Palancia y la Calderona, y restos de corrales de ganado junto con una antigua cantera de ruedas de molino.
Descubrir la laguna de la Dehesa en bicicleta de montaña sobre todo con las luces del atardecer, es todo un regalo para los sentidos a finales del invierno. El silencio que la envuelve cuando te acercas salta de inmediato al alejarse de nuevo, cuando los anfibios recuperan sus sonidos. Tradicionalmente utilizada como abrevadero puesto que quedaba junto a una colada pecuaria y por allí pasaban los ganados de Aragón, hoy solo pueden verse las huellas de jabalíes que se acercan a revolcarse en el barro.
Desde hace 11.000 años el hombre ha habitado su entorno. La constancia de la actividad de aquellos primeros cazadores recolectores se conserva en el Museo Arqueológico de Segorbe en las puntas de flecha, molinos de trigo y piezas de sílex.
La bici nos permite acercarnos a este singular espacio sin alterarlo. Tanto desde Soneja como desde Azuébar o Chóvar, podemos llegar a él siguiendo el PR CV-320, sendero señalizado con marcas blancas y amarillas.
