When learning and improving language skills, it makes perfect sense for students to choose Total Immersion Programmes, like the one we have at Caxton College which include living with a local family.
This kind of programme requires participants to constantly interact with native speakers, operating totally in the chosen language, in this case, Spanish.
Students’ experiences are diverse, but most often than not, they develop a close relationship with the members of the host family, as was the case with our former pupil Dasha, who has shared her experience with us:

estudiar español en una academia de español para extranjeros en Valencia

“You may think that it is weird to live with another family, but in fact it was fantastic. It was a bit scary for me but I got a warm welcome and they were so understanding… We got on really well from the beginning, I learned about the Spanish culture and current events and they were a great source of information when it came down to things to do or where to go in Valencia.
As we only spoke in Spanish, it helped me to improve my language skills enormously. We have kept in touch and I will come back to Valencia to visit them soon. I would definitely recommend living with a local family.”
Dasha chose Valencia because it is a friendly city, with mild weather and so much to do.
