During the third year of my study I got the chance to do an internship in a foreign country. From the beginning, I knew that I wanted to do an internship in Spain and learn Spanish. But the big question was; which city shall I choose?
I knew the big cities Barcelona and Madrid, but what for example has Valencia to offer me? I did a lot of research and I was so surprised about the city of the Paella and oranges, Valencia. It seems perfect for me! I live in Valencia for 3 months now and I really LOVE this city!

Valencia is the third biggest city of Spain, after Madrid and Barcelona. Valencia might not so touristic city like Madrid or Barcelona, but as so, you can really experience the real authentic Spain.

Valencia has a lot of historical buildings, beautiful squares and parks. There are a lot of restaurants were you can taste the delicious paella that is from Valencia. I think it is so great to live in a city where the beach is only 10 minutes away with public transportation from the city centre. You don’t have to be afraid that you are bored, because there is a lot to do here. In the weekends I like to go to the Mercado central (market) where I buy fresh food, go to a museum, walk in the old down town and drink a cup of coffee at a terrace, go to the beach and meet some friends, have dinner and after that go to a bar or a club.

The 3rd of February 2014 I started my internship at Hispania, escuela de español and from the first day I felt home at this school. I have never seen such a close and enthusiastic team of employees together. I work here at the marketing department and I really like it. Beside my internship, I also learn Spanish. When I came to Valencia three months ago, I couldn’t speak Spanish at all. The only words I knew where “Hola” and “Adios”, but as I follow a Spanish course for two hours a day at Hispania, I really have improved my Spanish.

At Hispania, escuela de español they teach at a really enthusiastic way, so learning Spanish becomes a real experience. Definitelly, I want to come back : ) !

During my Spanish courses I have met so many nice people which I speak almost every day. After the classes I talk with my new friends, drink a cup of coffee with them or meet them later to have dinner, play tennis or go out. Hispania, escuela de español also organises a lot of activities and I met so many other students from all over the world!

I really think Valencia is a good choice to learn Spanish and meet new friends. Everybody here is so helpful and kind.
The duration of my internship is 6 months, so I got 3 more months left. After living in Valencia for 3 months this place really feels like home, and I know for sure I’m really going to miss this place, Valenica, my loved Hispania, when I have to go back to the Netherlands. I think living in another country for the duration of a half a year and learning another language like Spanish, is so good for your own education and your CV of course. But most of all, it is so much fun. I really hope that after my study, I can work for a company who does business in Spain.
